Final Results
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team tied for 14
th place at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic which concluded Tuesday at the Talking Stick Golf Club.
The Warriors (307-294) fared better on the second day of competition shooting a 294 to give them a two round total of 601 for the tournament.
Gonzaga (299-275) took the team title after holding on to a six-stroke lead shooting a second round 275 for an overall score of 574. Colorado (306-274) fell just short of the Bulldogs with a runner-up finish after shooting a 274 for a 580 total. St. Mary's (306-276) and Tulsa (305-277) tied for third after both finished with an overall score of 582.
Individually, Glen Scher (70-68) of UC Santa Barbara took titlist honors after finishing with a second round 68 for a 2-under 138 total. Scher was the lone player in the field to finish under par for the tournament. The second place podium was a crowded one with four players finishing at 140 – St. Mary's Mac McClung (75-65) and Jonathan De Los Reyes (73-67), Utah's Daniel Engle (71-69), and Tulsa's Logan McCracken (74-66).
Leading the Warriors was freshman
Scotty Yamashita (75-72) who tied for 25
th after a second round 72 to finish at 147. Right behind Yamashita were juniors
Nainoa Calip (75-73) and
David Saka (74-74). Calip shot a second round 73 while Saka shot 74 to give them both a 148 total.
Also competing for UH, senior
Cory Oride (84-75) shot a second round 75, improving nine strokes from his first round to finish at 159 and a tie for 105
th. Junior
Tommy Yamashita (83-80) finished in a tie for 119
th after shooting a second round 80 for a 163 total.
The Warriors will conclude their regular season this weekend at the Western Intercollegiate on Saturday, April 13 and Sunday, April 14
th at Pasatiempo Golf Club in Santa Cruz, Calif.
