Men’s Golf In Ninth After Day One At Cowboy Classic

Day 1 Results

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.- The University of Hawai'i men's golf team continued their Arizona road trip with round one of the Wyoming Cowboy Classic, Monday, at Talking Stick Golf Club.
 
Due to inclement weather conditions day one of competition was shortened to 18 holes. The Warriors are currently sitting in ninth place after shooting a 307, a score that was inflated after the team gave away five strokes in the final two holes.
 
Wichita State has the lead in the team standings after shooting a first round 294. Gonzaga sits in second place five strokes shy of the lead at 299 with one round left to play. Arizona and Kansas State are currently in third and fourth after shooting a 301 and 303, respectively.
 
After day one, there is a three-way tie atop the individual standings with Kansas State's Curtis Yonke, UC Santa Barbara's Glen Scher, and Wichita State's Louis Cohen Boyer shooting 70. Utah's Daniel Engle and Gonzaga's Travis Johnsen are not far off the lead tied for fourth place at 71.
 
David Saka leads UH after shooting a 74. The junior from Honolulu currently sits in a tie for 10th place. Junior Nainoa Calip and freshman Scott Yamashita both sit tied for 20th place after both shot a first round 75.
 
Also competing for UH, junior Tommy Yamashita shot a first round 83 and currently is in a tie for 104th while senior Cory Oride is tied for 109th after shooting 84.
 
The Wyoming Cowboy Classic will conclude with the final round of play on Tuesday.
