Men’s Golf Moves Up At Thunderbird Invite

Junior David Saka shot a second round even-par 71 to lead UH at the Thunderbird Invitational
Round 2 Results

TEMPE, Ariz. – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team improved 22 strokes from its first round score during the second round of the ASU Thunderbird Invitational Saturday at Karsten Golf Course.
 
The Warriors shot a second round 7-over 291 and moved up to 16th place with a two-round score of 604 (313-291).
 
Third-ranked New Mexico continues to hold onto the team lead with a 286 on Saturday and a cumulative 562 for the tournament, two strokes clear of San Diego and Oregon State. Top-ranked California, UNLV, and San Diego State are four strokes back at 566 heading into Sunday's final round.
 
OSU's Nick Chianello maintains his lead in the individual leaderboard at 10-under 132, two strokes ahead of Iowa State's Scott Fernandez, who shot a second round 65.
 
Four of UH's five golfers improved their score from the previous round, including junior David Saka, who shot even-par 71 after a first round 79. The Honolulu native, who at one point was at 2-under in his round, is tied for 68th at 150 (79-71) along with teammate Scotty Yamashita, who shot 1-over 72. The freshman from Honolulu was 2-under through his first 12 holes before a double-bogey on the par-4 No. 4 hole.
 
Senior Cory Oride fired a 3-over 74 and is in 86th place at 153, one stroke ahead of teammates Nanoa Calip (77) and Tommy Yamashita (74), who are tied for 87th.
 
The tournament concludes on Sunday with tee times beginning at 7:30 a.m. PT.
