Round 1 Results
TEMPE, Ariz. – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team completed round one of the ASU Thunderbird Invitational Friday at Karsten Golf Course.
The Warriors currently sit in 18th place after shooting a first round 313 with two rounds left to play.
No. 3 New Mexico holds the lead in the team standings after firing a first round 276. San Diego State currently sits in second just five strokes out of the lead after shooting a first round 281 while UNLV is one stroke behind them at 283. Top-ranked California is tied for fourth with Oregon State at 284.
Individually, OSU's Nick Chianello has the lead after shooting a scorching first round 64. Chianello holds a two-stroke lead over San Diego State's Tom Berry and New Mexico's Victor Perez who are both two strokes shy of the lead after shooting 66, respectively. Kurt Kitayama of UNLV sits in fourth after shooting a first round 67.
For UH, junior
Nainoa Calip posted the team's top score after shooting a 77 on day one. The Hilo, Hawai'i native is currently in a tie for 74
th place with two days of competition left.
Also competing for the Warriors is freshman Scott Yamashita shot a first round 78 and sits in a tie for 82
nd. Senior
Cory Oride and junior
David Saka currently sit tied for 88
th after shooting 79, respectively, and junior
Tommy Yamashita shot a first round 80 and is tied for 94
th.
The ASU Thunderbird Invite will continue with the second round of play on Saturday.
