STOCKTON, Calif.--The University of Hawai`i women's tennis team was edged out by Pacific, 4-3 on Wednesday afternoon at the Hal Nelson Tennis Courts. The Rainbow Wahine fell to 3-7 overall and 2-3 in Big West action while the Tigers improved to 7-10 overall and 2-3 in the BWC.
Pacific captured the doubles point winning two-of-three matches. Hawai`i's
Martina Kostalova and
Rebecca Faltusz held off Pacific's Christiana Ferrari and Regina Suarez, 8-7 (4) in the tie-breaker.
In singles
Xenia Suworowa battled back after dropping the first set, 0-6 to win 6-2 and 6-4 to defeat Iveta Masarova in the No. 1 match. On the No. 2 courth, the Tigers' Hanna Ritterova held off
Katarina Poljakova in the tightest match of the day, 7-6, 7-5 (5). Kostalova won in strong fashion over Ferrari in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 3 match while No. 6 Faltusz knocked off Suarez also in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.
Hawai`i will continue its four-match California road-swing tomorrow when they play at UC Davis at 2:00 p.m.
