INDIO, Calif. -- The University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine women's tennis team saw their season come to an end with a 4-0 loss to top seeded UC Irvine in the semifinal round of the Big West Conference Championships at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden on Saturday, April 27.
UH could not tame the Anteaters as UCI won its 11th straight match against a Big West opponent. UCI started strong in doubles, winning the two matches necessary to claim the coveted doubles point.
Xenia Suworowa and
Katarina Poljakova gave Franziska Goettsching and Kristina Smith a fight, but could not create enough momentum, losing 8-5.
Singles play was no different as UCI carried the doubles play momentum and won three straight matches to claim the semifinals win. Ali Facey defeated
Kelsey Daguio, 6-4, 6-3, to put UCI up 2-0.
Rebecca Faltusz could not solve Sarah Stadfelt on the No. 6 Court, losing 6-3, 6-1. The final point was taken on the No. 1 Court as Smith defeated Suworowa, 6-2, 6-4, ending the 'Bows' season.
Poljakova played her final match at UH. The Rainbow Wahine conclude their 2012-13 season with a 5-11, 4-4 regular season record and 1-1 in their first BWC tournament.
