Britos Finishes Ninth; Women’s Golf Completes Big West Tourney

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – Senior Ka'ili Britos placed ninth and the University of Hawai'i women's golf team took eighth overall at the Big West Conference Championship, which concluded Tuesday at the San Luis Obispo Country Club.
 
The senior from Honolulu shot an even-par 73 on Tuesday and finished at 9-over 228 (80-75-73) for the tournament, 10 strokes off the winner Demi Runas of UC Davis (218). Britos had a steady final round, bogeying Nos. 9 and 11 before rebounding with birdies on Nos. 14 and 16 to close at level par.
 
The top 10 finish marks her third of her career at a conference tournament after a runner-up finish in 2010 and tie for eighth at last year's WAC Championship.
 
As a team, the Rainbow Wahine shot 319 on Tuesday to finish at 957 (326-312-319) for the tournament. No. 16 UC Davis ran away with the title for the fourth consecutive year with a final round 288 for a total of 881, 29 strokes better than runner-up Long Beach State (910).
 
Individually, the Aggies took the top four spots led by Runas, who shot a final round even-par 73 and won by two strokes over teammate Andrea Wong (220). Bev Vatananugulkit (223) and Amy Simanton (224) placed third and fourth, respectively.
 
Junior Liana Otake overcame an injury which forced her to withdraw from Monday's second round, and shot 79 in the final round. Senior Megan Inouye completed her UH career with a final round 84 for a 242 total (82-76-84) and a tie for 28th place. Junior Charlee Kapiioho (80-81-86=247) and freshman Nichole Cruz (84-80-83=247) tied for 32nd place.
 
The Big West Championships was the final tournament of the season for the Rainbow Wahine.
