Women’s Golf Completes Second Round At Big West Championships

Round 2 Results

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i women's golf team got off to a strong start during the second round of the Big West Conference Championship but faded on the back nine, Monday, at the San Luis Obispo Country Club.
 
The Rainbow Wahine finished with a 312, 14 strokes better than their first round score, and are currently in seventh place with a two-round total of 638 (326-312). First round leader UC Davis holds a commanding 16-stroke lead after a second round 304 for a 593 total. Long Beach State is second (609) followed by UC Irvine (618).
 
UH began the front nine at 2-over but completed the back nine at 18-over. Senior Ka'ili Britos had the best round of the day, carding a 2-over 75 and is currently in 13th place at 155 (80-75). The Honolulu native had two birdies and two bogeys on her opening nine and shot 2-over on the back, including a birdie on the par-3 17th.
 
Fellow senior Megan Inouye shot 3-over 76 in a round that included five birdies, four bogeys and two double bogeys. During one stretch in her round, she birdied three straight (Nos. 6-8) and posted four birdies in a five hole stretch. The Manhattan Beach, Calif., natvie is tied for 19th with a two-round score of 158 (82-76).
 
Freshman Nichole Cruz had a scorching start to her round. She posted birdies on No. 5 and 7 and made the turn at 1-under. But during a six-hole stretch, she had two bogeys and three doubles and finished at 7-over 80 for a two-round score of 164 (84-80) and 34th place.
 
Junior Charlee Kapiioho made the turn at 3-over but posted three bogeys and a double on her back nine to finish at 8-over 81. She is tied for 28th at 161 (80-81). Junior Liana Otake withdrew during her second round.
 
Individually, UC Davis holds the top three spots with Demi Runas holding a three-stroke lead over teammate Andra Wong. Runas is 1-under for the tournament after an even-par 73 on Monday.
 
The championships concludes on Tuesday with the third and final round.
