LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i mens tennis team took on national No. 2 UCLA, but fell6-1 to the Bruins on Wednesday at the Los Angeles Tennis Center. The Warriors drop to 3-6 overall in their second of a four-match road trip, while UCLA improves to 12-1.
 
Nils Schuhmann was the lone victor for the Warriors. At No.6 singles in the final match of the day, he topped Maxime Tabatruong in straight sets 6-4, 7-6(1), dominating the second-set tiebreaker.
 
UCLA swept doubles play en route to capturing the point and taking the early lead. Second doubles was the first to finish, as David Schuster and Jared Spiker fell to the Bruin team of Dennis Novikov and Clay Thompson, 8-3. The Bruins secured the doubles point when Adrien Puget and Karue Sell beat the UH pair of Jonathan Brooklyn and Chas Okamoto by the same score.
 
Singles play proved to more than the Warriors could handle. No. 20 Puget topped Brooklyn at the one to give the Bruins a 2-0 lead, then Sell handled Danilo Casanova in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1 at the five. UCLA clinched the win at second singles when Marcus Giron, the 10th-ranked singles player in the nation, defeated Dmytro Kovalyov 6-2, 6-1.
 
Okamoto put up a solid effort against Clay Thompson at No.4 singles. He lost a tight first set 7-5, but fell 6-1 in set two. Just after the match was decided Jared Spiker dropped a respectable result to No.54 Mkrtchian, 6-3, 6-4.

The Warriors continue their California swing, now flying to Fresno to take on Fresno State (Mar. 9) and Washington (Mar. 10).
