Day 1 Results
TUCSON, Ariz. – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team concluded the first two rounds of play Saturday at the Don Puckette NIT at Omni Tucson National Golf Course.
The Warriors currently sit in 14
th place after shooting a 302 in both rounds to give them a two-round total of 604 heading into the final round of play.
No. 13 Oklahoma State holds the lead in the team standings after shooting a first round 276 and a second round 283 for a total of 559 for the day. However, 18
th-ranked TCU is hot on their heels only one stroke out of the lead. The Horned Frogs shot a first round 279 and a second round 281 for a 560 total. No. 5 New Mexico (277-288) is in third and defending champion San Diego State (279-287) sits in fourth.
Individually, TCU's Julien Brun (68-65) has the lead after a scorching 11-under 133 for the first two rounds of play. Ian Davis (69-67) of Oklahoma State sits two strokes out of the lead while Texas A&M's Ben Crancer (67-70) and Arkansas' Thomas Sorenson (70-67) are tied for third.
Freshman
Scotty Yamashita (72-75) leads the Warriors after shooting a first round 72 and a second round 75 for a total of 147 and is currently in a tie for 46
th place.
Also competing for UH, senior
Cory Oride (76-76) and juniors
David Saka (77-76) and
Nainoa Calip (77-77), all of whom are within threes strokes of each other after day one. Oride, shot a 76 in both rounds for a 152 total and is in a tie for 70
th place. Saka shot a first round 77 and a second round 76 to give him a 153 total and a tie for 73
rd. Calip shot a 77 in both rounds for a 154 total for the day and currently sits in a tie for 77
th.
Sophomore
Ryan Kuroiwa (82-75) is tied for 84
th after shooting a first round 82 and a second round 75.
The Don Puckette NIT will conclude with the final round of competition Sunday, March 17 at Omni Tucson National Golf Course.
