Men’s Golf Finishes Day One at Amer Ari Invitational

Round 1 Results

WAIKOLOA, Hawai'i – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team completed the first day of competition in the highly competitive field at the Amer Ari Invitational at Kings Course on Wednesday.
 
UH currently sits in a tie with fellow Big West opponent UC Davis for 18th after shooting 10-over 298. TCU and UCLA currently sit tied atop the team standings after both teams shot 11-under 277. Texas, Washington and Auburn are on the heels of the leaders with all three teams within four strokes of the lead.
 
Individually, Daniel Jennevret of TCU is in the lead after the first day of competition, finishing the day shooting a 5-under 67.  However, with eight golfers currently tied for second and within one stroke of the lead, the standings could shift dramatically come Thursday.
 
For the Warriors, junior Nainoa Calip, native of Hilo, Hawai'i, and sophomore Ryan Kuroiwa lead the team after shooting 2-over 74 respectively. Currently, Calip and Kuroiwa sit in a tie for 67th.     
 
Senior Cory Oride and freshman Scott Yamashita are tied for 78th after each shot 3-over 75. Oride struggled on the front nine with one bogey and two double bogeys, but would bounce back finishing even with one birdie on the back nine.
 
Sophomore Brian Lee is also competing for UH and is currently in a tie for 96th after finishing his first round with a 5-over 77.
 
The Amer Ari invitational continues with the second round on Thursday, Feb. 7 with a 7:30 a.m. shotgun start. The tournament will conclude on Friday.
