HONOLULU – The No. 61 University of Hawai'i women's tennis team goes on its longest roadtrip of the season--a four-match swing through California, facing Cal State Fullerton, UC Riverside, Long Beach State, and University of San Diego.
The 'Bows lost their last two matches against the then-No. 9 Miami and No. 43 Oklahoma at the ITA Kick Off Weekend in Miami, Florida. In doubles, UH struggled against the high-powered Hurricanes, with the No. 3 pair of
Kelsey Daguio and
Rebecca Faltusz dropping their match to Kelsey Laurent and Brittany Dubins, 8-0. Then, UH's No. 2 duo of
Paulina Petriskova and
Martina Kostalova fell to Miami's Melissa Bolivar and Clementia Riobueno, 8-1 to capture the doubles point.
Hawai'i picked up their first point against the Sooners with
Katarina Poljakova at the No. 1 spot. Poljakova dropped the first set 5-7, but battled back to even the match against Ritchie 6-3 in the second set. Ritchie however then retired in the match to give UH their first point.
Hawai'i's three losses this season have come against No. 44 Washington, then-No. 9 Miami, and No. 43 Oklahoma. Their lone-win came in a Big West match against Cal Poly.
Xenia Suworowa had another strong showing at the ITA tournament. She dropped the first set, 2-6 but cam back to take OU's Whitney Wofford to a tie-breaker after tying the set at 6-6. Wofford, however then pulled away, 7-3 in the tie-break to win in straight sets.
First serve begins at Cal State Fullerton in Fullerton, Calif. on Feb. 13 at 12:00 p.m. on the Titan Courts. The remaining matches for the four-match road-trip includes: UCR on Feb. 14 at 9:00 a.m., LBSU on Feb. 16 at 9:00 a.m., USD on Feb. 19 at a to be announced time.
