HONOLULU – The No. 68 University of Hawai'i women's tennis team (3-6, 2-2 Big West) squeaked out a victory over the Xavier Musketeers (7-2) on Wednesday, Feb. 27 at the UH Tennis Complex. The Rainbow Wahine snapped Xavier's two-match win streak witha 4-3 win.
 
In doubles the teams needed two tie-breakers to decide who earned the doubles point, and it was the Rainbow Wahine prevailed. After UH's Martina Kostalova and Kelsey Daguio defeated Daniella Patton and Andrea Wolf, 8-4 first. Then, it came down to who would win on the No. 1 and No. 2 courts. UH would prove to be the victors with the second win coming on the No. 2 court with Xenia Suworowa and Rebecca Faltusz beating Alex Brinker and Ally Westling, 9-7.
 
With the doubles point in hand, UH needed three wins in singles in order to win the match. Paulina Petriskova kept the ball rolling with a win over Kally Akire, 6-3, 6-0 and Daguio kept the momentum knocking off Lizzie Oosterbaan in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4, giving UH a 3-0 lead.

Xavier's No. 2 Brinker was able to pick up Xavier's first point of the match when she defeated Suworowa, 6-3, 6-3 and the Musketeers' Plieman snapped Poljakova's four-match win streak in a tight match, 7-6 (3), 6-4 in the No. 1 match. Then  Xavier evened the match at 3-3 when Wolf battled back for the a three-set win over Faltusz, 2-6, 6-4, 6-1. With the match knotted at 3-3, it came down to the No. 4 match. Xavier's Patton handily defeated Kostalova 1-6 in the first set., but Kostalova stormed back to capture the next two sets, the match, and the win for UH, 6-4, 6-4.
 
The 'Bows will next face the San Diego State Aztecs on Saturday, Mar. 2 at 11:00 a.m. at the UH Tennis Complex.
