Warrior Tennis Ousted By Pacific, 4-3

Danilo Casanova won a third-set tiebreak in singles against Pacific
HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i men's tennis team hosted the University of Pacific Friday, Feb. 15 at the UH Tennis Complex. Pacific swept UH in doubles and were able to win three singles matches and win the overall match, 4-3.
 
In doubles play, the third pairing of Chas Okamoto and David Schuester were defeated by Alex Hamilton and Denis Stolyarov in a tight match, 8-5. On the No. 1 court, UH's Jonathan Brooklyn and Dmytro Kovalyov went into a tiebreak with Alex Golding and Sem Verbeek, but could not prevail, losing 9-7.
 
Singles began with Okamoto defeating Hamilton on the fourth court, 6-2, 6-4, opening up UH's scoring. With the match at 2-1 in UOP's favor, Danilo Casanova lost his first set against Daniel Alameh, 6-4; however, he was able to pull it together and win the next two sets, including a tiebreak in the final set, 6-1, 7-6 (1). Brooklyn won his first set against Golding, 6-4, but could not keep the momentum and lost the last two sets, 7-5, 6-2. With the match already decided, Jared Spiker overcame a one-set deficit to defeat Ben Mirkin in three sets, 6-7 (8), 6-1, 6-3.
 
UH next hosts Xavier on Feb. 28 at 2:00 p.m. at the UH Tennis Complex.
