Game Notes
The University of Hawai'i men's basketball team hosts the fifth annual Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic, Dec. 22, 23 and 25 at the Stan Sheriff Center. Joining UH in the eight-team tournament are Akron, George Mason, No. 17/13 Iowa State, Oregon State, Saint Mary's, South Carolina and UH's first-round opponent Boise State.
The Rainbow Warriors (7-2) and Broncos (8-2) first-round match-up will cap the opening day of action with an 8:00 p.m. tipoff. UH enters the tournament with the momentum of a five-game win streak. UH is coming off a 94-84 win over in-state rival Chaminade in a contest played on the island of Kaua'i on Dec. 14. Senior forward
Christian Standhardinger tied his career high with 31 points in the win and leads the team in scoring (18.4 ppg) and rebounding (7.8).
Boise State, meanwhile, has dropped two straight contests after starting the season with eight straight wins. The Broncos fell at Kentucky and dropped a home contest Saturday against a Saint Mary's squad that will also be in this year's tournament field. This will be the 22nd all-time meeting between UH and Boise State, who will meet for the first time since 2011, when they Western Athletic Conference rivals.
