HONOLULU – Just one day after clinching its 19
th straight conference title, the University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine volleyball team was named the 11
th seed and a host site for the 2013 NCAA Tournament. The 'Bows will host Big Sky champion Idaho State (23-11, 14-6) in round one of the 64-team field on Friday night at the Stan Sheriff Center.
Also traveling to Hawai'i for the subregional are Arizona State (19-13, 8-12 Pac-12) and BYU (22-6, 15-3 WCC). The Sun Devils and Cougars will face each other at 5:00 p.m. with UH (24-4, 13-3 BWC) and Idaho State playing the second half of Friday's doubleheader at 7:30 p.m. The winners will play on Saturday, Dec. 7 at 7:00 p.m. The emerging team will advance to the Los Angeles Regional and vie for a spot in the Final Four held at Key Arena in Seattle, Wash.
The 'Bows enter the dance winners of their final eight matches. They secured a share of the Big West title by beating UC Riverside in their final regular season match to finish in a three-way tie with UC Santa Barbara and Cal State Northridge. UCSB received the automatic qualifier to the NCAA Tournament and CSUN was an at-large selection.
UH will host the opening two rounds for the second time in three seasons. In 2011, the Rainbow Wahine beat Northern Colorado and Colorado State on their way to the Honolulu Regional where they lost to USC in the round of 16.
