Match Notes
HONOLULU – The No. 12 University of Hawai'i Wahine volleyball team will look to keep its hopes of a Big West Conference title alive when the 'Bows travel to UC Riverside and Cal State Fullerton to close the regular season. UH will play UCR on Friday, Nov. 29 (7:00 p.m. PT, 5:00 p.m. HT) and the Titans on Saturday, Nov. 30 (7:00 p.m. PT, 5:00 p.m. HT).
The 'Bows, along with Cal State Northridge, enter the final weekend of league play trailing UC Santa Barbara by one game. UH will need a pair of wins and at least one loss by UCSB to ensure a share of the Big West title and, with that, a 19th straight conference championship.
Also on the line is an opportunity to host rounds 1 & 2 of the NCAA Tournament for the second time in three years. UH dropped one spot in the latest RPI to No. 11, but will still need to fall six spots between now and the tournament selection show on Sunday to not have the option to host. The top 16 in the final RPI (Sunday) will be given the option to host.
Nikki Taylor is coming off a pair of fine outings last weekend, ones that earned the rising star her first Big West Player of the Week honor. Now a six-rotation player, she hit an impressive .444 in sweeps of UC Davis and Cal State Northridge. She had 11 kills, six digs and a block against the Aggies, and delivered a match-high 15 kills with a .565 hitting percentage against the Matadors.
Hawai'i continues to lead the Big West in hitting (.279), opponent hitting (.166), assists (13.37 a/s), and kills (14.38 k/s). UH's hitting clip also ranks 12th in the nation.
