Match Notes
HONOLULU – After a 13-1 overall and 2-0 Big West Conference start, the sixth-ranked University of Hawai'i women's volleyball team will head out for its first conference road matches. The 'Bows will face Long Beach State on Friday, Oct. 4 (8:00 p.m. PT, 5:00 p.m. HT) in a regionally televised match on FOX Sports West, then play at UC Irvine one day later on Saturday (7:00 p.m. PT, 4:00 p.m. PT).
UH opened the Big West season this past weekend with two impressive home wins. On Friday, the 'Bows broke two program rally scoring records in a sweep of Cal State Fullerton. In their 25-5 set two win, the Rainbow Wahine won a record 21 straight points and also established a new low in points allowed in a single set. The consecutive points won was also just one shy of the NCAA record.
Two days later, the Rainbow Wahine flirted with another record in a three-set win over UC Riverside. They allowed the Highlanders to just a combined 35 points in the match, only three off UH's rally scoring record set in 2011.
Outside hitter Emily Hartong currently leads the Big West and ranks 15th nationally in kills per set (4.49) and as a team the 'Bows are hitting .304, good for tops in the Big West and eighth in the nation.
