IRVINE, Calif. – The University of Hawai`i men's basketball team (9-5, 3-0 BWC) looks to remain undefeated in league play when they play its first-ever road games in the Big West. First up is a nationally televised match-up with UC Irvine (7-9, 1-2 BWC) on Wednesday, Jan. 9 at 8:00 p.m. PT (6:00 p.m. HT) on ESPNU.
 
UH is off to a strong start in its inaugural Big West season. By winning a trio of Big West home games to open the year, the Rainbow Warriors are off to its best league start in 11 years. The last team with such a start was the 2001-02 squad which started 6-0 in the Western Athletic Conference en route to a league championship and UH's last NCAA Tournament bid.
 
Hawai'i will now face the challenge of playing on the road, something they have done just once this season on the mainland. They will also face a pair of teams in UC Irvine (preseason 3) and Long Beach State (preseason 1) picked to finish in the upper echelon of the Big West.
 
The Rainbow Warriors are led by the front court of Christian Standhardinger (15.7 ppg, 7.6 rpg), Vander Joaquim (14.4 ppg, 8.8 rpg) and Isaac Fotu (11.3 ppg, 7.4 rpg).  The team also boasts the reigning Big West Player of the Week in Brandon Jawato who went a perfect 7-of-7 on three-pointers in the first half alone during UH's last win versus UC Riverside.
