CORAL GABLES, Fla.—The No. 54 University of Hawai'i women's tennis team (1-2, 1-0 BWC) was swept by No. 9 Miami (3-0, 0-0 ACC) on the opening day of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend tournament on Friday morning at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
 
In doubles, UH struggled against the high-powered Hurricanes, with the No. 3 pair of Kelsey Daguio and Rebecca Faltusz dropping their match to Kelsey Laurent and Brittany Dubins, 8-0. Then, UH's No. 2 duo of Paulina Petriskova and Martina Kostalova fell to Miami's Melissa Bolivar and Clementia Riobueno, 8-1 to capture the doubles point.
 
The Rainbow Wahine tried to battle back in singles competion, but was unable to break through. Petriskova pushed No. 92 Stephanie Wagner to the limit in the first set, losing in a tie-breaker, 7-3 and then lost the second set, 6-3. UH's No. 1 Katarina Poljakova lost her first set 6-1 against No. 57 Lina Lileikite, but fought back in the second set just falling short, 7-5. In the longest match of the day, No. 3 Xenia Suworowa took the first set 6-4 but Bolivar evened the match with a 7-5 win in the second set to force a third. In the super tiebreaker, the two battled back-and-forth, but it was Bolivar who prevailed, 11-9 to complete the sweep of Hawai'i.
 
The Rainbow Wahine will now face the loser of the Oklahoma/Arizona State match tomorrow morning at 10:00 a.m. EST.
