Game Notes
The University of Hawai`i men's basketball team (10-8, 4-3 BWC) plays the first of four straight road games when it plays at Cal Poly (7-9, 3-3 BWC) in a Big West contest on Thursday, Jan. 24. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m. PT (5:00 p.m. HT) at Mott Gym.
After starting league play a perfect 3-0, UH has been in a slump losing three of its last four games and dropping into a tie for third in the league standings. The Rainbow Warriors fell victim to a torrid shooting performance by UC Davis this past Saturday in a 93-82 home loss. The Aggies buried 16 three-pointers—including 14 in the first half alone—to hand UH its first Big West home loss of the year. Corey Hawkins' 40 points were the second most ever scored in the Stan Sheriff Center as he powered an Aggie squad that scored the most points against UH this year.
Cal Poly has likewise felt a reversal fortune. Winners of its first three league games, the Mustangs have since dropped its last three contests, all of them on the road. Two of those losses were by just one bucket, including a 83-81 double-overtime loss at rival UC Santa Barbara in its last outing on Saturday.
The last time UH and Cal Poly met was in December 2010 when the Mustangs defeated the 'Bows, 54-53, on a put-back at the buzzer in head coach
Gib Arnold's first-ever road game. Following its game at Cal Poly, UH will take on UC Santa Barbara on Saturday, Jan. 26.
