HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team began day one of the Weinman Foundation Invitational hosting No. 7 California and Hawai'i Pacific on Saturday, Jan. 12 at the UH Tennis Complex. 
 
In doubles action, UH's Rebecca Faltusz and Kelsey Daguio were defeated by the Golden Bears' Kelly Chui and Cecilia Estlander, 8-2 while Katarina Poljakova and Xenia Suworowa were not able to get past Cal's Zsofi Susanyi and Klara Fabikova in the closest doubles match of the day for UH, 8-4. The duo of Paulina Petriskova and Martina Kostalova also fell 8-2 to California's Anett Schutting and Lynn Chi.
 
In singles action, UH's Poljakova battled valiantly against the Golden Bears seventh-ranked Susanyi, but fell in a tight, two-set tiebreak match, 7-6 (4), 7-6 (6). Kostalova went up against No. 9 in the nation Schutting. Kostalova jumped to an early lead as she captured the first set, 6-4. However she was unable to keep the momentum as Schutting won the next two sets, 6-1, 6-2.
 
The 'Bows will begin day two of the Weinman Foundation Invitational on Sunday, Jan. 13, at 11:00 a.m. at the UH Tennis Complex.
