No. 6 Rainbow Wahine Set To Host Hawaiian Airlines Classic

HONOLULU – The No. 6 University of Hawai'i women's volleyball team continues its home stand hosting the Hawaiian Airlines Wahine Volleyball Classic from Aug. 31-Sept. 2 at the Stan Sheriff Center.
 
The Rainbow Wahine open the tournament on Friday, Aug. 31, hosting San Francisco at 7:00 p.m. They will then face Baylor on Saturday, Sept. 1, at 7:00 p.m. before playing the finale against California on Sunday, Sept. 2, at 5:00 p.m. 
 
Hawai'i (3-0) swept through the competition last weekend to win its fifth straight Chevron Rainbow Wahine Invitational. UH won the tournament with a rousing defeat of No. 6 Stanford in the championship match.
 
The 'Bows are led by junior outside hitter and Big West Player of the Week Emily Hartong. In her three matches at the Chevron Tourney, she averaged 4.36 kills, 2.73 digs and 0.73 blocks per set while hitting .286 en route to earning tournament Most Outstanding Player honors.
 
Freshman middle blocker Jade Vorster made a huge splash in her first action in a Rainbow Wahine uniform. She had her best performance on Saturday against Saint Mary's where she recorded 12 kills with no errors and added six blocks. She also boasted an outstanding .581 attack percentage for the tournament.
 
The tournament kicks off Friday at 5:00 p.m. pitting Baylor against California followed by UH's 7:00 p.m. match against USF.

Promotions: Hawaiian Airlines will distribute 500 team photos one hour prior to the scheduled start time of each UH match and award 20,000 Hawaiian Miles to the winner of the promotional contest at intermission with runner-ups receiving consolation prizes. During intermission, Hawaiian Airlines representatives will toss mini-volleyballs and t-shirts into the stands. 1,500 ti leafs will be distributed in the student section during the course of the weekend. Students will also be able to signup for the chance to participate in the “Service Challenge” contest and have the opportunity to win 60,000 Hawaiian Miles. The Rainbow Wahine will be holding an autograph session on the concourse following the Hawaiian Airlines Wahine Vollleyball Classic awards presentation after Sunday's match.
