Rupp Accepts Coaching Position At Montana

HONOLULU – University of Hawai'i director of basketball operations Kerry Rupp is leaving the Rainbow Warrior basketball program after accepting an assistant coaching position with the University of Montana.

“I really appreciate the unique opportunity I was afforded here in Hawai'i,” Rupp said. “I thoroughly enjoyed my experience with Coach Arnold, the staff and all the players and wish nothing but continued success for the program.”

Rupp boasts nearly three decades of coaching experience and was the head coach at Louisiana Tech for four years before coming to Hawai'i. Prior to reviving Louisiana Tech, Rupp worked as a top assistant at some of the most successful basketball programs in the nation—including Utah and Indiana—and developed a reputation as one of college basketball's top recruiters.

Head coach Gib Arnold brought Rupp aboard the UH staff in October 2011 and the Utah native proved to be vital asset for a Rainbow Warrior squad competing in its final season in the Western Athletic Conference.

“I'm excited for Kerry and grateful for the time he spent here in Hawai'i,” Arnold said. “He's an outstanding coach and good friend. I'm glad he will be back on the floor coaching and recruiting as that's what he was born to do.”
