HENDERSON, Nev. – University of Hawai'i men's golfer
Cory Oride is tied for ninth place after round one of the 2012 WAC Men's Championship, Monday, at the Rio Secco Golf Club.
Oride got off to a quick start with two birdies through five holes. Bogeys ensued on four of the next nine holes before he finished strong with birdies on 16 and 17 putting the Kaua'i native at even-par 72.
Also competing for UH are sophomore
Nainoa Calip at (73/t12th), seniors
T.J. Kua (78/t28th) and
Jared Sawada (81/t34th), and sophomore
David Saka (81/t34th).
Idaho and Fresno State share the team lead at 287 and are trailed by San Jose State at 290. Four time defending champion New Mexico State is in fourth place at 293 followed by Utah State (294), Nevada (301), UH (304) and Louisiana Tech (304).
Individually IU's Sean McMullen leads after shooting a sizzling 7-under 65. USU's Tanner Higham is three strokes back in second place at 4-under par.
Round two will begin tomorrow at 7:00 a.m. (PST)
