Brown Selected By Rams In 7th Round; Three Sign As Free Agent

NEW YORK – Former University of Hawai'i linebacker Aaron Brown was selected by the St. Louis Rams in the seventh round of the NFL Draft Saturday. Brown was the 209th overall selection and second pick of the seventh and final round.

Brown was the only Warrior selected in the draft. He is the program's 24th draft pick since 2000 and second UH player in as many seasons to be picked by the Rams. Former wide receiver Greg Salas was selected by the Rams in the fourth round of last year's draft.

Three other former Warriors signed free agent contracts. Defensive linemen Vaughn Meatoga and Zach Masch signed with Washington and Seattle, respectively, while linebacker Corey Paredes is headed to Minnesota.

A two-year letterman for the Warriors, Brown was an all-Western Athletic Conference first team pick last season after recording 103 total tackles and 13.0 sacks. He ranked seventh in the WAC in tackles per game (8.6) and tallied three interceptions and three fumble recoveries. He concluded his illustrious career by participating in the Casino Del Sol Bowl all-star game.

Since 1993, Brown is the fifth former Warrior to be selected by the Rams. In addition to Salas, linebacker Pisa Tinoisamoa was picked in the second round of the 2003 Draft; offense lineman Kaulana Noa was a fourth round selection in 2000; defensive lineman Maa Tanuvasa was picked in the eighth round in 1993.
