Britos, Kapiioho Finish In Top 10 At WAC

Final Results

MESA, Ariz. – University of Hawai'i women's golfers Ka'ili Britos and Charlee Kapiioho finished in a tie for eighth place at the 2012 Western Athletic Conference Women's Golf Championships, Wednesday, at the Longbow Golf Club.

Britos carded a final round 76 while Kapiioho shot a 2-over 74 putting each of them at 221 for the championship. Both were in contention during the first two rounds as Kapiioho (68-79-74) had the outright lead after round one while Britos (71-74-76) remained in the top five after rounds one and two.

For Britos, a junior from Honolulu, her finish marked her third in the Top 15 at a WAC Championship and sixth career Top 10 finish. The eighth place finish was Kapiioho's best of her young UH career.

Also competing for the Rainbow Wahine were sophomore Liana Otake (79-72-80=231/t17th), senior Erika Lundberg (82-82-74=238/23rd), and junior Brigitte Baker (81-82-93=256/30th).

San Jose State took the championship with a total of 877 followed by Idaho (890), Fresno State (902), UH (299-307-304=910), New Mexico State (302-310-301=913) and Nevada (319-312-315=946).

Individualy IU's Kayla Mortellaro edged out NMSU's Demi Mak with a birdie on the fourth playoff hole.  Mortellaro entered the day with the lead at 3-under and shot a final round 1-over 73 to finish at 2-under 214. Mak began the day tied for seventh at 3-over and shot a blistering 5-under 67 to force a playoff.

The WAC Championship marked the end of the 2011-12 season for the Rainbow Wahine.
