Britos In Contention At WAC Championship

Round 2 Results

MESA, Ariz. – University of Hawai'i women's golfer Ka'ili Britos is in fourth place after two rounds of play at the 2012 WAC Women's Golf Championship in Mesa, Ariz.
 
Britos shot a second round 2-over 74 putting her at 1-over 145 for the Championship. The junior maintained consistent play throughout the round and was in second place for a majority of the back-nine before giving back two strokes on number 17 with a double-bogey.
 
First round leader sophomore Charlee Kapiioho struggled early and quickly found herself in the black at 1-over par after bogeys on holes four and five followed by a triple-bogey on number six. The Honolulu native's struggles continued on hole number 10 whereshe recorded a double-bogey.
 
Kapiioho fought back by birdying four of the next seven holes putting her back to even-par for the championship. The momentum abruptly stopped there as the sophomore gave back three strokes on number 18 with a triple bogey putting her in a tie for seventh place at 3-over par (68-79=147).
 
Also competing for the Rainbow Wahine is sophomore Liana Otake who shot a career-best even-par 72 putting her in a tie for 13th place at 7-over par (79-72=151). Rounding out the team are junior Brigitte Baker (81-82=163/25th) and senior Erika Lundberg (82-82=164/26th).
 
San Jose State leads all teams at 582 after shooting 291 for the second consecutive day followed by Idaho (301-295=596), Fresno State (305-297=602), UH (299-307=606), New Mexico State (302-310=612), and Nevada (319-312=631).
 
Individually IU's Kayla Mortellaro leads all players at 3-under par.  SJSU's Kathleen Rojas and Madeleine Ziegert are tied for second at even-par.
 
The WAC Championship will conclude tomorrow with the third and final round.
