Round 1 Results
MESA, Ariz. – University of Hawai'i women's golfer Charlee Kapiioho is atop the leaderboard after round one of the 2012 WAC Women's Golf Championship at the Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Ariz.
The Honolulu native got off to a quick start with birdies on holes two and three, followed by six straight pars as she went into the back-nine at 2-under par.
Kapiioho started the back-nine with pars on holes 10 and 11 before sinking her third birdie of the day on number 12 putting her at 3-under.
Back-to-back bogeys ensued on holes 13 and 14 setting the sophomore back to 1-under par. Following the consecutive bogeys, Kapiioho responded by birdying three of the final four holes finishing the day with a career-best 4-under par 68.
Junior Ka'ili Britos is just three strokes off the lead in fifth place after shooting under-par for the second time this season. Britos shot a 1-under 71 which was highlighted by four straight birdies on holes 7-10.
Also competing for the Rainbow Wahine are sophomore
Liana Otake (79/t19th), junior
Brigitte Baker (81/t21st), and senior
Erika Lundberg (82/t25th).
San Jose State leads the field at 291 and holds an eight stroke lead over second place UH at 299. Rounding out the field are Idaho (301), New Mexico State (302), Fresno State (305), and Nevada (319).
The Championship will continue Tuesday with round two of competition.
