Rainbow Baseball To Host Central Michigan This Week

Game Notes

HONOLULU – Winners of eight of its last nine games, the University of Hawai'i Rainbow baseball team will host Central Michigan University this week for a four-game series. The 'Bows and Chippewas will play Wednesday, Mar. 7 (6:35 p.m.), Thursday, Mar. 8 (6:35 p.m.), Friday, Mar. 9 (6:35 p.m.) and Saturday, Mar. 10 (1:05 p.m.).

Hawai'i (9-4) featured several stellar pitching performances this past week in winning three of four games against Wichita State. Overall, the team has a WAC-low 2.82 earned run average through 13 games and has surrendered just 24 walks, also best in the WAC. The defensive success extends beyond the pitching though. UH has committed only 12 errors on the season and just one in the Wichita State series.

Freshman Scott Squier (2-1) highlighted the effort, tossing eight shutout innings for the win which culminated in his first Western Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week selection. Senior Matt Sisto ran his record to 3-0 with an impressive outing on Thursday, pitching into the eighth inning to guide UH to a 6-3 win. The following day, Jarrett Arakawa (1-0) rivaled Sisto's effort. He also pitched 7.2 innings, allowing just one run and recording six strikeouts.

At the plate, Zack Swasey continues his extra-base hitting barrage. To date he leads the conference in extra-base hits (5 doubles, 2 triples). Freshman Kaeo Aliviado broke out of an early-season slump to record four hits in the four games against the Shockers, none bigger than the eventual game-winning homerun on Friday. Senior Collin Bennett has also continued his fine form in his new digs at third base, leading the team with a .351 batting average.
