Men’s Tennis Hits The Road For Three Matches

HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i (2-7) men's tennis team continues life away from home with a three-game road trip through Fresno, Calif.  The Rainbow Warriors will play New Mexico State (13-11), No. 19 Fresno State (11-1), and Tulsa (8-7). First Serve of the NMSU match is at 11:00 a.m. PT at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center in Fresno, Calif.
 
The 'Bows are coming off a Western Athletic Conference win in their first conference match of the season against Nevada in Santa Barbara, Calif. After losing the doubles point, UH had to win four of six singles matches to secure the victory. Jared Spiker defeated Quentin Mege in a close, two-set win to make the match 2-1.  With the match at 3-2, the 'Bows secured the victory when Dmytro Kovalyov defeated Moez Chargui in a three-set thriller, 7-5, 5-7, 6-4.
 
Kovalyov has started to come into form in the last couple of matches, going on a two-match winning streak.  He has been pushed back to the No. 3 court position and has steadily improved with a 2-1 overall record.
 
The Aggies are on a five-game losing streak, dating back to February 8th. Eduardo Salas is on a three-match win streak in singles playing mostly in the No. 6 position (6-2), but has seen time in the No. 5 court (2-0) and the No. 4 court (1-0). The top duo for NMSU is Salas and Roman Stoisavljevic with a 13-8 record and winners of their last three doubles matches.
 
The Bulldogs are coming in hot with a 10-game winning streak on the line, starting from February 3rd. FS also won its WAC opener, a 6-1 drumming of Idaho, and is led by singles No. 14 Remi Boutillier
 
The Hurricanes have a two-game win streak on the line after defeating No. 30 Louisville and No. 62 TCU. In doubles, they bring in ranked No. 5 Clifford Marsland and Ashley Watling with an 11-3 overall record and a three-game win streak.  In singles, the Hurricanes boast three ranked players: No. 68 Jape De Klerk, No. 75 Watling, and No. 97 Marsland. De Klerk has played all season in the No. 1 (4-6) court, Marsland has seen time on No. 1 (2-1), 2 (3-3), and the No. 3 (3-1) courts, and Watling is undefeated in the No. 1 (1-0) and 3 (6-0) court and seen time on the No. 2 position.
