HONOLULU – The No. 58 University of Hawai`i women's tennis team overpowered No. 59 Wyoming, 6-1. The Rainbow Wahine started and finished strong in the win over the Cowgirls on Saturday at the UH Tennis Complex.
 
The No. 3 doubles pair Aglae Van den Bergh and Martina Kostalova defeated Jessica Parizher and Silviya Zhelyazkova, 8-4 to start the day. UH's top duo of Barbara Pinterova and Jamie Pawid won their second straight doubles match with a win against Veronica Popovic and Simona Synkova, 8-4, to seal the doubles point.
 
In singles play, Katarina Poljakova had a dominating victory over Synkova in the No. 2 position, 6-1, 6-0. Pawid continued to impress in her freshman season with a victory over Alexandra Kovacs, 6-2, 6-3 and Xenia Suworowa clinched the match with a hard fought two-set win over Parizher, 7-5, 6-4. Pinterova held on for the win in a tiebreaker against Veronica Popovici, 7-5, 4-6, 10-3, in the No. 1 position.  Kostalova ended the day off with a three-set win over Sasa Nemcova, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3, to end the match 6-1.
 
UH will take some time off until the end of the month, when they play against UC Davis on Friday, Mar. 30.
