Track & Field Concludes Rain-Shortened Aztec Invitational

LA JOLLA, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i track and field team weather the storm in its outdoor season opener at the rain-shortened Aztec Invitational, Saturday. Due to severe weather, a number of events were cancelled.
 
Several Rainbow Wahine set personal bests during the two-day meet, which attracted some 18 collegiate teams and hundreds of competitors.
 
Among the notable performances were Samantha Esperanza and Amanda Alvarez in the 100-meter hurdles. Both won their respective sections with PR times of 14.62 and 14.97, respectively.
 
The only field events held on Saturday were the high jump and javelin. In the high jump, Samantha Balentine and Sarah Saddleton each jumped 5-5 (1.65m) to tie for third. Kelsey Trimble placed fourth with a javelin throw of 130-8 (39.84m).
 
In an event held on Friday, Joanna Franke-Kuhn took sixth in the hammer throw with a mark of 178-3 (54.34m).
 
The Rainbow Wahine will next host the Rainbow Relays, Saturday, March 24, at the Clarence T.C. Ching Field.
