HONOLULU – The No. 58 University of Hawai'i women's tennis team gave No. 19 Notre Dame its best shot before eventually falling to the Fighting Irish, 6-1, Wednesday afternoon at the UH Tennis Complex.  The Rainbow Wahine fell to 6-7 with the loss.
 
Playing its third ranked opponent in two weeks, the Rainbow Wahine were competitive, particularly in singles play, but were able to garner just one point. The Fighting Irish captured the doubles point with wins on two of three courts then proceeded to win five of six singles matches.
 
UH's lone point came on the strength of a 2-6, 6-3, 6-1 win by senior Aglae Van den Bergh over Katherine White on the No. 6 court. Barbara Pinterova lost a tight 6-4, 3-6 decision to No. 52 Shannon Mathews on the No. 1 court, while sophomore Xenia Suworowa also dropped a close match (7-5, 6-4) to Chrissie McGaffigan on the No. 5 court.
 
Notre Dame (11-4) breezed in its two doubles wins, highlighted by an 8-4 win by No. 2 Mathews and Kristy Frilling over Pinterova and Jamie Pawid on the feature court.
 
The 'Bows will next play their third match in as many days when they host Illinois State Thursday, March 15 at the UH Tennis Complex. First serve is at 1:30 p.m.
