KANE'OHE, O'ahu – The University of Hawai'i women's golf team concluded the 27
th Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational with a 10
th place finish, Wednesday at the Kane'ohe Klipper Golf Course on Marines Corps Base Hawaii.
The Rainbow Wahine finished the two-day tournament where they started after Round 1. UH shot 323 on the final day for a 940 total (318-299-323), its best team score of the 2011-12 season. Texas A&M captured the team title (901) by four strokes over UC Davis (905).
Individually, UH's
Erika Lundberg was the team's top performer finishing in a tie for 13
th place at 228 (78-74-76), after firing a 4-over 76 in Wednesday's final round. Lundberg shot all three rounds in the 70s and her finish was her highest since tying for 11
th at the 2009 Western Athletic Conference Championships.
Idaho's Kayla Mortellaro captured the medalist honors with a 5-over 221 total. She shot a final round 3-over 75 to win by one stroke over Coastal Carolina's Brittany Henderson and Gonzaga's Alice Kim. Henderson shot consecutive rounds of even-par 72 on Tuesday and was 1-under through nine holes in her final round before finishing the back nine at 7-over par, including a bogey on No. 18.
Among UH's other golfers included Ka'ili Britos (80-76-81) and Charlee Kapiioho (79-74-84), who both tied for 39
th at 237.
Brigitte Baker tied for 52
nd at 240 (83-75-82) while
Megan Inouye finished 67
th at 248 (81-81-86).
Competing as individuals for the Rainbow Wahine were
Liana Otake (82-76-78=236/t36th),
Madeleine Ystrom (79-78-84=241/t54th), and
Anna DePalma (80-89-85=254/t75th).
Hawai'i will next host the Anuenue Spring Break Classic, March 26-27, at the The Bay Course in Kapalua, Maui.
