LOS ANGELES—The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team defeated Loyola Marymount in their first roadtrip of the spring, 4-3. The 'Bows swept the Lions in doubles en route to the victory at the LMU Tennis Center on Wednesday afternoon.
 
UH's No. 10 ranked doubles team of Katarina Poljakova and Jamie Pawid defeated LMU's April Bisharat and Miya Jin, 8-2, while Barbara Pinterova and Xenia Suworowa knocked off the Lions' duo of Elisaveta Pironkova and Reka Rohonyi, 8-5. The No.3 doubles match of the day went to UH's Aglae Van den Bergh and Martina Kostalova who held off Ashley Anderson and Tory Parravi in a close match, 8-6.
 
The Rainbow Wahine then went on to win the first three singles matches in order  to capture the victory. The No. 3 singles match finished first with Pawid sweeping Anderson, 6-1, 6-1. Pinterova followed in the No. 2 singles slot with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Jin and Van den Bergh came through with a 6-3, 6-2 straight set win over Ana Lucia Fuentes in the No. 6 spot. Loyola Marymount then took the final three matches with the Lions' Visharat defeating Poljakova, 7-5, 6-1; Parravi winning over Suworowa in three sets, 3-6, 6-1, 6-1; and Pironkova held off Kostalova in a 10-to-6 super tie-breaker win after splitting the first two sets, 7-6, 3-6.
 
Hawai'i will continue their four-match road swing through California tomorrow, Feb. 9 at 1:30 p.m. when the 'Bows take on No. 56 UC Irvine.  On Saturday, Feb. 11, UH will battle Fresno State in their first Western Athletic Conference match of the season at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center at 12:00 p.m. Hawai'i will then conclude its roadtrip at No. 54 San Diego State on Monday, Feb. 13.
