Game Notes
HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i men's basketball takes on Nevada in a crucial Western Athletic Conference contest Thursday, Feb. 9 at 7:00 p.m. All fans are encouraged to wear black as part of a “
Blackout” at the Stan Sheriff Center.
After playing three straight road games, the Rainbow Warriors (13-9, 5-3 WAC) return home for a three-game home stand, beginning with a game versus the first-place Wolf Pack (19-4, 8-1 WAC). UH currently sits in third-place in the WAC and can gain much- needed ground in the WAC race with a win over Nevada.
UH has won three of its last four games, including a heart-stopping 83-81 come-from-behind overtime win at San Jose State on Saturday.
Joston Thomas led the rally by scoring 11 points in a critical 16-0 run and finished with a career-high 29 points, while also adding 12 rebounds. The junior forward was named WAC Player of the Week for his efforts.
Nevada, meanwhile, is coming off its first WAC loss of the year, a 72-68 home setback to Idaho on Saturday. The Wolf Pack owned a school-record tying 16-game win streak before the loss to the Vandals.
This will be the second meeting between the teams as the 'Bows look to avenge a 77-74 loss in Reno on Jan. 14. UH led by seven points with less than five minutes left in that game before Nevada rallied behind Deonte Burton, who finished with a game-high 25 points.
Following its game versus Nevada, UH will take on Fresno State on Saturday, Feb. 11 and New Orleans on Tuesday, Feb. 14. Both games start at 7:00 p.m.
