HONOLULU – The No. 52 University of Hawai'i women's tennis team (4-3) swept Eastern Michigan (5-5) in a decisive 7-0 win on a rainy Thursday afternoon at the UH Tennis Complex. The two-hour rain delay forced the two teams to play the singles matches first and then doubles.
The Rainbow Wahine were able down the Eagles in singles action quickly. Highligting UH's victory was
Barbara Pinterova defeating Miriam Westerink, 6-2, 6-0 in a battle of No. 1's.
Xenia Suworowa defeated Mariya Toncheva, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4 in what turned out to be the closest match of the afternoon and in the No. 6 slot
Aglae Van den Bergh was able to blank Georgia de'Lisle-Tarr in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0.
In doubles action, the top pair of Pinterova and
Jamie Pawid defeated Westerink and Nino Mebuke, 8-2. The No. 3 doubles match was a tight battle between Hawai'i's
Kelsey Daguio and
Rebecca Faltusz who were able to hold off Daphne Friedrichs and Ankita Bhatia in a close tiebreaker win, 8-7 (7-5).
The Rainbow Wahine will continue their 11-match homestand against the No. 14 Michigan Wolverines (6-3) on Friday, Mar. 2 at 1:30 p.m.
