Men’s Golf Concludes First Mainland Spring Tourney

Final Results

PALM DESERT, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team concluded its third tournament of the spring season at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate, Sunday at the Classic Club.
 
After beginning the day by completing Round 2, the Warriors finished the tournament by shooting 304 for a three-round total of 915 (304-307-304) for 23rd place.
 
UNLV captured the tournament with a score of 844, seven strokes better than runner-up Texas Tech.  UNLV's Kevin Penner took medalist honors with a 7-under 209.
 
UH's top individual was junior Cory Oride, who tied for 52nd with a score of 6-over 222 (77-74-71), which included a final round 71. Reigning Western Athletic Conference golfer of the week, senior T.J. Kua struggled with a 231 (76-77-78) and a tie for 96th.
 
Also competing for the Warriors were sophomore Tommy Yamashita (73-79-80=232/t98th), sophomore Nainoa Calip (80-77-76=233/t102nd), and sophomore David Saka (78-82-79=239/t114th).
 
Hawai'i will next compete in the National Invitation Tournament, March 16-17, in Tucson, Ariz.
