Game Notes

HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i Rainbow Warrior basketball team (4-2) returns home after its first road game of the year to host Pepperdine (5-3) in a non-conference match-up on Saturday, Dec. 8. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m. at the Stan Sheriff Center.

The Rainbow Warriors are coming off a 77-63 loss at No. 24 UNLV in its first road game of the year. UH fell behind by as many as 26 points in the first half before rallying to within eight points in the second half. Both of UH's losses this year have come against teams that are currently in the national rankings (also overtime loss to #13/14 Illinois.)

Christian Standhardinger tallied 27 points and 10 rebounds in the loss at UNLV and is now the team's leading scorer at 17.0 ppg.  Preseason all-Big West selection Vander Joaquim is averaging 15.0 ppg and 7.5 rpg, while two other UH starters—Brandon Spearman (13.7 ppg) and Hauns Brereton (11.5 ppg)—are also scoring in double-digits. Senior point guard Jace Tavita ranks 10th in the country in assists per game (7.0).

Pepperdine is 5-3 on the year and have won five of its last six games. The Waves had its four-game win streak halted with a 67-63 overtime loss at Utah Valley on Dec. 1. Pepperdine is 2-1 against Big West teams this year, including a 62-40 win over UC Riverside on Wednesday night.
