University of Hawai'i defensive back/kickoff returner
Mike Edwards was selected to the CBSSports.com All-America third team as a kickoff returner.
Edwards, a junior from Cleveland, Ohio, led the country in kickoff return yardage with 1,215 and ranked sixth nationally with a 30.4 average. He was one of only four players nationally with at least three kickoff returns for touchdown. His three scores set a new UH single-season and career mark. Edwards also holds the school's career kickoff return yardage mark (2,301).
Named to the All-America first team was Utah's Reggie Dunn while Kent State's Dri Archer was a second team pick.
Defensively, Edwards tied for 12
th nationally with 16 passes defended, which included two interceptions. He was the team's fourth-leading tackler with 43 and had five tackles for loss and one forced fumbles
On Sunday, Edwards was the recipient of the Alec Waterhouse Most Valuable Player award at the team's end-of-season banquet.
