Game Notes

HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i men's basketball team hosts the fourth annual Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic, Dec. 22, 23 and 25 at the Stan Sheriff Center. Joining UH in the eight-team tournament are No. 4/5 Arizona, East Tennessee State, Indiana State, Ole Miss, No. 18/15 San Diego State, San Francisco and UH's opening day opponent, Miami.

The Rainbow Warriors (5-3) and Hurricanes (7-1) first-round match-up will cap the opening day of action with a 7:30 p.m. tipoff. UH will play either Arizona or East Tennessee State in the following day's action (4:00 p.m. or 6:30 p.m.).

Both teams enter the tournament with some momentum. UH is coming off a 104-93 win over in-state rival Chaminade in a contest played on the island of Molokai. The 104 points was UH's highest output in more than 18 years, while the team's 63 first-half points were just three off a school record. Junior forward Christian Standhardinger tallied his third straight double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds in the win. Miami, meanwhile, has won six straight contests, including a 67-59 home upset of then-No. 13 Michigan State on Nov. 28 and a 72-50 win at Central Florida in its last contest on Tuesday night.

UH is 5-4 all-time in the tournament with a fourth-place finish in 2009 and fifth-place finishes in 2010 and '11. The 'Bows have won four of those games in the last two years with wins over teams from the ACC, SEC, Mountain West and Atlantic 10.
