PRINCEVILLE, Kaua'i – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team completed a rigorous first day of the Warrior-Wave Intercollegiate presented by St. Regis Princeville Resort, Monday at the Makai Golf Club.
Co-host UH's “A” team is currently sitting in 12
th place at 300, while the “B” team is in 16
th place at 325. Georgia Southern holds the Day 1 lead at 283 followed by North Carolina State (284), East Tennessee State (286), UC Irvine (286), and Baylor (287). Co-host Pepperdine is tied for sixth at 291.
Individually, three golfers share the first round lead at 4-under 68 – UC Santa Barbara's Amol Mahal, East Tennessee State's Adrian Meronk, and Xavier's Korey Ward – all of whom teed off in the morning when conditions were perfect. Five others are one stroke back at 3-under 69. The wind picked up in mid-morning and scores rose among the later pairings.

Cory Oride rebounded from a front nine 41 with a 1-under 35 to finish at 4-over 76. Junior
Tommy Yamashita shot the low round of the day for Hawai'i with a 1-over 73, that included four birdies and five bogeys.

Nainoa Calip birdied the par-5 18
th hole to finish at 3-over 75 while junior
David Saka finished birdie-par-birdie to finish 4-over 76. Sophomore
Ryan Kuroiwa's front nine included four birdies, however, he struggled with five bogeys on his back nine to finish 5-over 77.
