Match Highlights
On senior night at the Stan Sheriff Center, the University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine volleyball team completed a perfect Big West Conference record with a 25-17, 25-17, 25-23 sweep of UC Riverside. UH (26-2, 18-0 BWC) became the first Big West team to run the table since UC Santa Barbara in 2002.
Emily Hartong and
Jane Croson carried the load for Hawai'i, burying 13 and 12 kills, respectively. Hartong, Croson, and
Ali Longo each had a match-high nine digs, and the 'Bows swung at a .321 clip.
Ashley Cox had nine kills and six digs to lead UC Riverside (8-24, 2-16 BWC).
The 'Bows broke away midway through the first set to take an early lead in the match. After a Cox kill cut the lead to 14-10, the 'Bows took six of the next seven points and won going away. Croson and Kalei Adolpho (5 kills) each had a block assist and a kill to highlight the run.
Hartong kept it going in the second set as UH ran away with the win again. With the 'Bows in firm control, Hartong posted UH's last four kills of the set as the Rainbow Wahine took a commanding lead heading into intermission.
Closing out the match in the third set wasn't as easy, but the 'Bows rallied and eventually completed the sweep. With score knotted at 22-22, Croson, Hartong, and
Kristiana Tuaniga buried kills to clinch the win.
Following the match senior
Emily Maeda was honored for her years of contribution to University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine volleyball. Maeda lettered four years at UH after redshirting in 2008.
The 'Bows now wait to find out where and when they will be playing their opening round match of the NCAA Tournament beginning next week. The selection show will be televised live on ESPNU this Sunday at 4:00 p.m. ET (11:00 a.m. HT).
