HONOULU—The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team completed its first fall tournament as the 2012 UH 'Anuenue Invitational came to a close on Saturday.
 
The Rainbow Wahine battled hard, but fell short in both of their doubles matches which went into tie-breakers. UH's top duo of Katarina Poljakova and Xenia Suworowa fell 9-8 with a 7-2 tie-breaker against Hawai'i Pacific's Karen Ramirez-Rivera and Ielyzaveta Rybakova. BYU-Hawai'i Alexandra Ulbrichtova and Sophia Simmons held off UH's Martina Kostalova and Rebecca Faltusz, 9-8 with a 10-8 win in the tie-breaker in the closest match of the day..
 
In singles, Poljakova bounced back after falling in the first set, 5-7 to defeat BYUH's Tuionetoa 6-3 and 6-4 in the final two sets. After dropping the first set, 7-5, Suworowa fought back to capture the second set 6-2 before falling 6-2 in the third to HPU's Vivian Hansen. In other UH action, Rybakova of HPU defeated Kostalova, 6-1, 6-4; Smejova (HPU) downed Kelsey Daguio, 6-1, 6-1; and Celina Goetti (HPU) defeated Faltusz, 6-0, 6-3.
 
Next up for the Rainbow Wahine are the ITA Regionals in San Diego, Calif., Oct. 18-22.
