SAN DIEGO—University of Hawai'i women's tennis team continued action on Day 3 of the USTA/ITA Southwest Regional hosted by San Diego State with all of the five UH players participating in consolation matches.
Three players—
Katarina Poljakova,
Martina Kostalova, and
Kelsey Daguio all won their matches. Poljakova defeated Ania Jeczminonka of Long Beach State (6-4, 6-3) while Kostalova also won in straight sets over Kalika Slevcove from CSU Fullerton (6-4, 6-1). Daguio hung on to notch a win over Anne-Sophia Willems from Long Beach State. Daguio won the first set 7-5 but dropped the second, 1-6. Daguio then held off Willems, 10-7 in the tie breaker.
In other matches,
Xenia Suworowa fell to Sara Cantlay (LBSU), 6-3, 6-4 and
Rebecca Faltusz fell to Arizona State's Joanna Smith, 7-5, 6-2.
In doubles, the UH duo of Poljakova and Faltusz knocked off LBSU's Cantlay and Monica Rodriguez, 8-4.
On Sunday, Poljakova will face San Diego's Laura Claus in a singles match as the Southwest Regionals continue.
