HONOLULU - The University of Hawai'i men's and women's swimming & diving teams will kick of the 2012-13 season against defending Mountain Pacific Sports Federation champion BYU. The dual-meet will run from Friday, Oct. 5 to Saturday, Oct. 6 at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatics Complex.
The Rainbow Warriors return 21 letterwinners from last season and welcome nine newcomers to the squad. Among the returnees are seniors
Luca Mazzurana, who holds the school record in the 100 butterfly and 200 IM,
Ruddy Kiessling, and diver
Freddie Menzel. The UH men finished off last season taking fourth at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships while the Cougars finished in first.
On the women's side, the Rainbow Wahine welcome 11 newcomers into the mix and 19 returnees. 2012 Summer Olympian
Jasmine Alkhaldi, who swam for her home country the Phillipines, returns for her sophomore season as the team leader in freestyle. Also returning for the women are seniors
Taylor Ritenberg and
Hannah Bocksnick as well as junior Sofia Djelic. The Rainbow Wahine will now join the men's team as members of the MPSF.
UH wrapped up last season finishing in third place at the Western Athletic Conference Championships.
Events on Friday will begin at 2:30 p.m. and events on Saturday will kick-off at noon.

Time: Friday - 3-meter dive will begin at 2:30 p.m. followed by the Day 1 swimming events. Saturday - Day 2 swimming events will begin at noon followed by the 1-meter dive.
