Game Notes
The University of Hawai'i men's basketball team (11-8, 3-2 WAC) completes the first-half of its Western Athletic Conference schedule with a pair of road games this week. First up for the Rainbow Warriors is a meeting with defending WAC champion Utah State (10-10, 2-3 WAC) on Thursday, Jan. 21. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m. MT (4:00 p.m. HT) at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum.
The Rainbow Warriors enter the road trip in a tie for third-place in the WAC standings. UH split its latest homestand, falling to Louisiana Tech (74-70) before rebounding with a win against New Mexico State (91-87). Senior captains
Zane Johnson and
Jeremiah Ostrowski were sidelined in the loss against La Tech, but returned in a big way against New Mexico State to keep UH in the thick of the WAC race. Johnson scored a season-high 29 points, including seven three-pointers, while Ostrowski had eight assists and four steals to hand the Aggies their first conference loss of the year.
UH now faces another Aggie squad in Utah State. The perennial WAC champion was tabbed the preseason favorite but has gotten out of the gates slowly with a 2-3 start. Despite nearly upsetting the Aggies twice last year, Hawai'i has still lost six straight meetings against Utah State and has never beaten the Aggies in Logan in conference play (0-6).
Following its game at Utah State, the 'Bows will travel to Moscow to take on an Idaho team (10-9, 3-2 WAC) that is currently tied with UH in the WAC standings. That game is set for Saturday, Jan. 28 at 8:00 p.m. PT (6:00 p.m. HT).
