HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team fell short in a 6-1 loss against Mississippi, Friday afternoon at the UH Tennis Complex. The Rainbow Wahine went 0-3 in doubles, while
Xenia Suworowa came out with the only win in singles.
In doubles, Jaime Pawid/Katarina Poljakovo lost in a close doubles match against Kristi Boxx/Abby Guthrie, 8-5. The other two wins for Ole Miss came at 8-4 and 8-2. Taking the wins were Erin Stephens and Gabby Rangel over
Barbara Pinterova and
Xenia Suworowa, while Caroline Rohde-Moe and Julia Jones defeated Martina Kostalova and Algae Van den Bergh.
Hawai'i's sophomore Suworowa had the lone win against Erin Stephens, 6-3, 6-2. Not without tremendous effort,
Barbara Pinterova almost made a comeback against Abby Guthrie, losing the first set at 7-6 (7-4), winning the second set at 7-5, and losing in the tie-breaker set at 10-5. Jones defeated Kostalova in a close match in both sets, 7-6 (7-4), 7-5. In other action, Iris Verboven beat Van den Bergh at 8-6 and
Rebecca Faltusz defeated Paige Keating, 8-0.
The Rainbow Wahine will hit the road for a four-game roadtrip beginning on Feb. 8, 2012 against Loyola Marymount in Los Angeles, California.
