Box Score

LOGAN, Utah – The University of Hawai'i women's volleyball team defeated Utah State on Saturday in four sets, 21-25, 25-16, 25-15, 25-20 . UH improves to 12-1 overall and 2-0 in the WAC with the Aggies dropping to 6-9 overall and 1-1 in conference.

Kanani Danielson posted a match-high 19 kills with 11 digs for UH, who atoned for its loss to USU in last season's WAC title match. Jane Croson and Alex Griffiths each recorded a team-high 12 digs with Croson adding 14 kills.

Liz McArthur led the Aggies with 16 digs and Laurel Bodily had a match-high 21 digs.

After dropping the opening set, Hawai'i handled the Aggies in the next three sets to remain undefeated in WAC play. The 'Bows led 15-10 in the first set before Utah State won 11 of the next 12 points to take a 21-16 lead. Sorensen (11 K, 4 B) and Everett (3 K, 5 B) each recorded two blocks and two kills in the run.

The 'Bows were too much for the Aggies from that point on. After holding a slim lead for most of set two, a pair of kills and a block by Danielson spearheaded a 7-0 run to close the set and even the match. In set three, UH distanced itself from USU with a 4-0 spurt midway through. Hawai'i grabbed a 12-6 lead, then pushed it to 22-12 before Kaela Goodman's kill sealed the win.

In set four, the 'Bows again grabbed a sizable lead but this time saw Utah State respond. UH led by five points late in the set but a 4-1 run by the Aggies pulled them to within 21-19. The 'Bows would pull away, though, to win the set and match.

Hawai'i now returns home and will continue WAC play this Thursday, Sept. 29, against Nevada then face Fresno State on Saturday, Oct. 1.
